Keep in mind that you might not be the only person interviewing for a specific position, which is why it’s crucial that you know what top traits are most valued in a potential employee.
You have to be qualified. Of course, this goes without saying. Don’t apply for a senior job if you’re still a junior, and try to only apply to jobs that are relevant to your qualifications or you might be very disappointed by the result of your application.
You’re a fast learner. If you’re eager to learn, and able to learn fast companies will appreciate it. Try to show the interviewer that you can easily adapt by sharing previous examples of how you had to learn new systems or processes quickly.
You show leadership. Not just with your job title. You have to demonstrate to the interviewer that when needed, you can make a valuable contribution to the company whether it’s in showing initiative or leading your team to a successful result. The interviewer needs to know that you’re different from the other candidates – you stand out and will make a difference to the team.
You’re open to new ideas and methods. Although you have experience and knowledge on the subject, you have to be able to show the interviewer that you’re open to new ideas and you’re always willing to learn more.
You’re not just there to fill a seat. If you’re passionate about what you do and you really want to be part of the company, you’d show the interviewer that you care about your work and want it to make a positive impact on the company. You should want to grow with the company and add to its success – it’s a good indication that you’re in it for the long run and not just for the salary.
Before going to any interview, make sure you read and understand the job specs. Then relate your skill set and experience to what is asked for and needed. If the interviewer can see that you can meet all the job requirements and will make their life easier, you have a greater chance of getting hired.
